"Envy Dance Group"
EnVy is a five member dance group out of New Jersey who specialize but is not limited to the pop-lock style of dance. Envy also incorporates contemporary jazz, hip-hop, club, along with “dance tricks” and drama into each of their performances. Envy has been in existence for over 8 years performing in an array of places and venues since the beginning of their existence. The five member dance group had the honor and the opportunity to make history being the first dance group and the first entertainers to perform at the grand opening of Newarks own Prudential Center Arena. In addition they have also won numerous awards such as 1st place prizes at “Farleigh Dickerson University’s Talent Show”, 1st place in the “Westside High School You Got Served Dance Competition”, finalist in the 2004 “Jersey Idol” talent competition, and most recently added to their list of accolades, BET Spring Bling 06’ and Showtime at the Apollo Dance Competition Winners. Envy was also featured on the 2006 Against All Odds Clothing store East Coast Tour.
Not limited to just performers these bright and vigorous young men are too entrepreneurs. From a bubbling EnVy clothing and music retail to their soon to be launched Dance School, the divine five has raise the bar and set the pace for up and coming dance teams. EnVy has plans to host again their most successful project yet, the “Dance Warz” Competition this fall. This event took place for the first time fall of 2006 where over 1500 people were in attendance to see groups from up and down the east coast battle for $2,500 and bragging rights. The event took place at the Newark Symphony Hall and was co-sponsored by Uranvision.Net, Against All Odds Clothing store, Akademics Clothing Line, The City of Newark, Vegas Style and GetSkrilla Entertainment Companies.
During there tenure members of the charismatic dance team in their spare time have also instructed dance classes for middle school aged children. EnVy is committed to providing positive alternative for urban youth and has accumulated over 15,000 hours in community services. The group is also viewing the prospect of developing a Jr. EnVy group for younger men interested in dance.
Ayman Edwards goes by the name Poppin’ Ice, his name derives from his ability to execute dance movements as carefree and slick as water dripping of an Ice-pop. Ayman is 20 years old and presently attends Bloomfield College. Anthony Harris is a graduate of Piscataway High School is known as Solo. His father is a former professional dancer. Anthony is 22 years old. Jerryl Sharif, age 24 is a Bloomfield College graduate, and a Boys & Girls Club of Newark coordinator who is highly imaginative and outrageously talented. Jerryl serves as the chief choreographer as well as leader of the five member unit. Jerryl dance name is Butta. Christopher Thomas whose dance name is Hitman is currently 23 years of age and a prominent leader for the Best Buy Corporation. Christopher also specializes in Digital Video and Photography. Last but certainly not least is 19 year old Zachary, whose dance name is ZipLocK. Zachary is indeed a multifaceted talented individual and is a force to be reckoned with. Zachary impresses all crowds and critics say he has yet to reach the peak of his potential.
This dance group is geared up and focused ready to take what began as a hobby to the ultimate level. They are most definite the cream of the crop in the area of dance and well respected in their respective home towns as young men who are doing positive things and serving as outstanding role models to young men everywhere. |
